Forwards or backwards?
So, we’ve hit that time of year where new year’s resolutions are rife, everyone has eaten too much, drunk too much, not moved enough and even a walk to the car feels like too much effort.
Think back 12 months. What were your thoughts about how you were going to start the year? Start afresh with healthy eating, less drinking and more exercise? And did you achieve it? If so, well done. You are in the minority.
At this point, you’ve two choices – look back to 2013 and repeat the same process, or look forwards to 2014 and decide how you’re going to live it. It’s so easy to fall into the ‘I can’t because…..’ trap. I know, I’ve been there far more often than I’d like to admit. One of my biggest challenges in my life currently is fitting in my own workouts – I’m in the park from 6am and don’t usually finish until noon, with a crazy hour between 8 and 9 where I whizz home, breakfast, shower and get the kids to school before I’m back for the 9.15. By the time midday comes round, it’s far too easy to wander home and sit down. But that won’t keep the lard at bay, eh? So I know. I know what it’s like to have obstacles in the way.
Personally, I’ve set myself some goals, both short term and long term and I’ve started on achieving them already. My schedule is unlikely to change – but my approach to my workout routine can.
What are your obstacles stopping you reach your wellness and fitness goals? How can you change your approach (accepting the often the obstacle can’t be changed)?
I’ve achieved a lot in 2013. But I want to achieve more in 2014. And I’ve started already. In fact, I’m genuinely excited about what 2014 is going to look like.
Which way are you looking – forwards or backwards?
